J&K’s Handwara boy’s unbeatable spirit to get education

There are some people in the world that despite of having so many obstacles put together their courage to push the past challenges and overcome their obstacles. One such example comes from Jammu and Kashmir where a fourteen-year-old boy walks to school on one leg.

It is very rare to find someone having so much courage and feeling of never giving up. Parvaiz Ahmad Hajam, a young boy from Handwara who walks to school on one leg is one such example. He lost his left leg at a very tender age to a massive blaze, Parvaiz, presently studying in class 9 at Government High School Nowgam but aims to become a doctor.

He hails from village Nowgam in north Kashmir’s Handwara sub-district and lost his leg at a very small age in a fire incident. Parvaiz told Greater Kashmir that he has to face many difficulties while going and coming back from school and added that he walks nearly two kilometers to reach school and takes around one hour to reach school. Parvaiz further said that but he never left hope and try to compete with the other students in all curricular or co-curricular activities. He further said that he takes part in many sport activities in school as well.

“Parvaiz plays with other students of his class and always gives them a tough time while displaying his all-round skills in both games,” Khursheed Ahmad, who teaches Parviaz at school, told Greater Kashmir.

Ghulam Ahmad Hajam, father of Parvaiz, said that due to financial constraints, he is unable to bear expenses for his son’s medical treatment. Hajam has now appealed government for immediate intervention in this regard so that the hardships being faced by his son would end.
