JU hosts industry-linked AI workshop; students get hands-on MATLAB training

The Department of Computer Science and IT, University of Jammu, in collaboration with the DesignTech, MathWorks team, organized a one-day workshop titled “One-Day Hands-on Workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) using MATLAB” on May 6, 2026.

The workshop was inaugurated by the Head of the Department, Prof. Vibhakar Mansotra, in the presence of faculty members of the department and resource person Manoj Kumar, Assistant Manager from the DesignTech, MathWorks team, New Delhi.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Mansotra expressed his sincere gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Umesh Rai, for his guidance and encouragement in promoting such academic activities. He further highlighted the importance of such initiatives in enhancing students’ knowledge of emerging technologies and bridging the gap between academia and industry. Notably, the workshop was conducted free of charge, making it accessible to all participants.

The workshop was designed to provide participants with practical exposure to the latest version of MATLAB and its advanced tools for AI, ML, and DL applications. It aimed to help M.Tech students and research scholars explore various features and functionalities of MATLAB that can be effectively utilized in research, data analysis, model development, and project work. The event included hands-on sessions, live demonstrations, practical implementation of AI techniques, and real-world applications to enhance participants’ technical and research skills.

The participants expressed their immense satisfaction and appreciation, describing the workshop as highly insightful and valuable. They conveyed that such initiatives are extremely beneficial and emphasized the need for organizing more such workshops in the future.

The event concluded successfully, providing participants with valuable exposure to emerging AI technologies and reinforcing the department’s commitment to promoting industry-relevant learning and innovation.
