Kashmir receives first snow of the season, temperature dips

Popular ski-resort Gulmarg in Kashmir’s Baramulla experiences first snow of the season on Sunday while plains received rains. There has been a fall in temperature. The Affarwat hills in Gulmarg experienced snowfall and in the rest of the union territory, the weather was mainly dry during the last 24 hours.

Director Meteorological Department Sonam Lotus said that there had been rainfall at several places in Kashmir valley and light snowfall on higher reaches of Gulmarg and Pir Panjal Range mountains.

As per reports, Affarwat hill top phase-2 and higher reaches of Pir Panjal range of mountains including Margan top and mount Harmukh experienced light snow fall during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

MeT officials said that the weather will remain dry during the coming week and added that there are less chances of rain or snowfall in Kashmir during this period.

MeT officials said that Gulmarg recorded a low of 2.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday, 3.9 degree Celsius below normal.  Srinagar recorded a low of 11.8 degrees Celsius against 11.4 degrees Celsius the previous night.
