Murmu is likely to be the next Comptrollet and Auditor General of India as Rajiv Mehrishi will retire next week from the post.

GC Murmu was appointed last year soon after the controversial article 370 was abrogated on August 5.

Murmu had recently stated that the government of Jammu and Kashmir has no problem in restoring the high speed 4G internet services that were snapped on August 5 last year. The government of India in Supreme Court had taken a stand that the services cannot be restored due to the threat of terrorism in the Union Territory of J&K.

Election Commission of India has also snubbed GC Murmu recently when the latter made remarks on timing of elections in the UT. ECI had stated that the decision on timing of election should not be discussed by authorities not related to the body.

GC Murmu is a 1985 batch Indian Administrative Services (IAS) with Gujarat cadre. He is the first Lt Guv of J&K UT.
