Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha declared a 10% reservation for Agniveers in the Jammu and Kashmir Police and also pledged to take into account recommendations for the candidates’ coaching. He made the announcement during the monthly “Awaam Ki Awaaz” programme, which is broadcast on All India Radio (AIR)-Jammu and Kashmir on the third Sunday of each month.
Reservations for “Agniveers” in the police and a few other Departments have already been announced in States like Haryana. Similar reservations in some of the paramilitary formations have also been declared by the Union Home Ministry. Following the cloudburst catastrophe near the Shri Amarnath Ji cave shrine, Sinha also praised the Jammu and Kashmir Police, security forces, NDRF, SDRF, administration, and staff for their contribution in saving several lives.
In addition to paying respect to those who perished in the tragedy, the Lieutenant Governor also praised the locals for helping to direct pilgrims to safety and for their assistance during the yatra.
The staff of the Electricity Department, Road Construction Department, Jal Shakti Department, and all other people involved in disaster management were thanked and complimented by Sinha for overcoming recent poor weather and ensuring round-the-clock services and operations. He commended the Kishtwar and Udhampur district administrations for enhancing effective governance in their jurisdictions.
He recognised the crucial work of the Baramulla Water Heroes, including Mohammad Ramzan Wani, Abdul Ahad Reshi, Mushtaq Ahmed Dar, Riyaz Ahmed Mir, Ashraf Wani, and Abdul Hameed Tantre, who made sure 25 villages had access to water despite flash floods.
The Lt. Governor specifically mentioned J&K-based female entrepreneurs who are motivating other women with their tenacity, hard work, and successes.
He mentioned Malika Shah’s line of herbal items, Madiha Talat’s “Shirin Aromatics,” and Saima Khan’s “Step in” technological institute that had come to represent independence, female entrepreneurship, and empowerment.
The Lt. Governor remarked that Payal Sharma’s start-up, “JK Aromatic Herbs,” and Geetika Kohli’s soft skill training centre are two brilliant examples of women’s empowerment, creative strength, and the very essence of greatness and leadership. Umang Sharma from Jammu was praised by the Lt Governor for bringing up the contributions of the esteemed mathematicians of ancient India. She has advocated for at least an hour of weekly instruction in schools on the lives, contributions, and influences of such significant figures on modern astronomy and mathematics.
