LG Sinha inaugurates Digital J&K week, several initiatives launched

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha unveiled a number of digital projects and officially kicked off the week-long Digital Jammu & Kashmir campaign at SKICC. The Lt. Governor also launched Digi-Mela, which will spread knowledge about new technology and digital solutions throughout the districts. According to the Lt. Governor, the Digital J&K Week programme will highlight IT initiatives that are focused on the needs of the residents and have improved government transparency and citizen convenience.

In order to transform core ICT infrastructure, governance, and services for ease of living, accessibility, and innovation to transform J&K into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy, the Lt. Governor issued directives to the stakeholders outlining short-term goals of three to six months and long-term vision statements.

At the event, the Lt. Governor also unveiled the “Digi Dost” programme, which aims to build a strong network of young volunteers with digital skills at the District, Block, and Panchayat levels. They can serve as brand ambassadors for Digital India and J&K to promote digital services to the widest possible audience. Volunteers from “Digi Dost” will also support the delivery of digital services, data collection, training, information dissemination on the Digital India campaign, and raising public awareness of cyber hygiene and cybercrime.

The Lt Governor noted that from the starting of this year, there have been 22.48 crore electronic transactions in the J&K UT, citing a recent data from the Union government. Last month, J&K Bank’s digital transactions surpassed the 22 lakh milestone. J&K ranks in the top three states/UTs for internet penetration, with a score of 52%. With 72 percent male and 43.3 percent female internet users, we are doing better than many states and UTs, he said.

The Lt. Governor earlier launched the Digi Yatra and looked over the booths set up by various UT administration departments to provide information and raise awareness about the digital services and the ways in which they are being expanded. On this occasion, a video presentation showcasing several digi-services & their advantages was also shown.

Along with the Lt. Governor unveiling the Digilocker integration in domicile certificates and the “Tagline & Logo” competition on MyGov, the event saw the introduction of an electronic compilation of IT efforts. The event was attended by Deputy Commissioners, senior officials, a sizable number of people from all over the UT, as well as Junaid Azim Mattu, Mayor of SMC, Aftab Malik, DDC Chairman Srinagar, R K Goyal, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Sh Vivek Bhardwaj, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department; Administrative Secretaries.
