Local BJP leaders in Jammu ‘unauthorizedly’ distributing domicile certificates

As there are growing allegations that local BJP leaders are ‘hoodwinking’ poor people on the pretext of making them beneficiary of welfare schemes launched by the government, people are consistently raising questions about the authority of saffron party leaders to distribute domicile certificates and Ayushman Cards to the people.

The responsibility of distributing these documents among beneficiaries lies with elected representatives be it Councilors or Panchayat members, and local party leaders have no authority to distribute these cards to the people. A domicile certificate is an official document issued by the Revenue Department. Surprisingly, BJP leaders are holding public functions to distribute such documents.

BJP leaders are regularly issuing official hand-outs mentioning areas where they have distributed either domicile certificates or Ayushman cards among beneficiaries. When these domicile certificates should be handed over to the people by officers, BJP leaders are themselves distributing these certificates in public functions.

There are allegations that some BJP workers were even charging money from the poor people in some areas for distributing these documents which are necessary to take benefits of various welfare schemes.

Reliable sources said that the matter was brought to the attention of some senior BJP leaders of J&K.
