Massive search operation launched in Jammu Region to counter terrorism

Jammu : Security forces have launched a large-scale search operation across nearly two dozen locations in Jammu region, primarily in the higher reaches and forested areas along the Line of Control. This operation aims to counter terrorist activity following a surge in attacks last year across multiple districts.

While the Pir Panjal districts of Rajouri and Poonch saw a decrease in terrorist incidents in 2024, attacks spread to six other districts in the Jammu region in 2023, resulting in 44 deaths, including 18 security personnel and 13 terrorists. The current operation spans 23 locations, with the highest concentration (10) in the Chenab valley districts of Kishtwar, Doda, and Ramban, along with seven in the Rajouri-Poonch belt, three in Udhampur, two in Reasi, and one in Jammu district. The intensified search, conducted in close coordination between the army, police, and central armed police forces, is designed to disrupt terrorist activities and prevent Pakistan-based handlers from further destabilizing the region. Authorities plan to escalate these operations in the coming months before summer.

Official data reveals that in 2023, Doda, Kathua, and Reasi each saw nine killings, followed by Kishtwar (five), Udhampur (four), Jammu and Rajouri (three each), and Poonch (two). Among the civilian casualties were seven pilgrims returning from the Shiv Khouri temple and three Village Defence Guards.
