New CM in Punjab? Sidhu supporters target Captain as CLP meeting scheduled today

Congress high command is planning change of guard in Punjab as meeting of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) is scheduled to meet Saturday evening. Reports that Chief Minister (CM) Captain Amarinder Singh might come in trouble as Navjot Singh Sidhu camp is hell bent to replace the former.

Sidhu was entrusted with the responsibility to head the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) recently as the high command believed that he would stop tirade against the present CM Captain Amarinder Singh. However things did not change and Sidhu camp continued attacks on Amarinder Singh.

However it was not known whether the CLP meeting has been called to name the new CLP leader or to discuss the ongoing situation regarding Congress in Punjab.

Political activity was witnessed on Saturday morning where Navjot Singh Sidhu went to the Congress office during the day to meet his supporting MLAs. Even Captain Amarinder Singh visited his Sector 2 house to meet the MLAs supporting him.

MLAs are likely to approve a single-line agenda authorising party president Sonia Gandhi to elect the new CLP leader.

“In such a scenario, the party high command asks the CM to put in his papers ahead of the CLP meeting. It is to be seen how things unfold during the day,” a senior leader privy to the developments told The Tribune.

Sources also informed that Captain Amarinder Singh has told party president Sonia Gandhi that he cannot continue as a CM facing such humiliation at the hands of Navjot Singh Sidhu time and again.
