No end in sight for Suchetgarh residents for Wagah-Attari like facilities

Gharana Wetland

Wait for Suchetgarh residents to see development of infrastructure like there on Wagah-Attari border is getting longer. It is alleged that political governments ignored tourist spots of Jammu and no proper steps have been taken to explore tourism in the region.

Visit of Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Raghav Langer recently raised hopes of the development of Suchetgarh border post as a tourist spot as successive regimes have done nothing on ground for the same.

Several promises to develop Suchetgarh border post on the pattern of Wagah border were made, but nothing was done in reality. Even after the central rule, people thought that discrimination will end soon but their hopes died as no or little development was seen.

Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Raghav Langer conducted an extensive tour of Suchetgarh, Gharana wetland circuit and assessed the development of facilities at these potential sites for the tourists.

During the tour, the Div Com commanded the tourism Department to create additional facilities so that maximum tourists can be attracted.

He took a round of the border outpost and looked over many utilities including, gallery, canteen, park, pond area and assessed the required development of facilities for the visitors.

He also asked for the development of pond, installation of lights, benches, cafeteria, blacktopping of roads etc. Instructions to BSF authorities were also given to construct vertical sitting space for the audience to watch retreat ceremonies on the pattern of Wagah Border.

Interestingly the Detailed Project Report has also been prepared by Tourism Department for additional works including construction of Museum, Development of Pond, ornamental footbridge over the pond, musical fountain over the pond etc. The Div Com instructed the officers of the Tourism Department to proceed with the DPR to promote border tourism on the pattern of Wagah Border.
