The concerned authorities of Power Development Corporation (PDC) fail to resolve the issue of one unit of Upper Sindh Hydel Project Stage IInd, Kangan in Ganderbal district of Kashmir Valley which is lying idle for nine months.

Similarly, in Jammu region nine MW Sewa Power Project of Basohli tehsil in Kathua district is lying defunct since past many years showing how the authorities are performing their duties.

The three units of Upper Sindh Hydel Project Stage IInd generate 105 MW during peak hours in summer with each unit generating 35 MW of power. By difficulty and issue in its one unit, the generation has been reduced to 70 MW since last over nine months.

In winters, power generation decreased due to fall in water level in rivers and the project out of 70 MWs from its two functional units hardly generates 35 MWs during peak hours at present while during the day time the generation comes down from 35 MWs to 10 or 15 MWs, reportedly.

As per Daily Excelsior, due to leakage in Wangat Canal at Burnbag area of Kangan , unit of project developed a snag. The work was started for restoration of project but the opening of tenders were delayed by six months and led to further delay in work. Later contractor asked for higher rates to start the work which again led to delays.

Moreover, the post of Chief Engineer, Civil Investigation Kashmir, which falls under PDC is vacant since long and  post of executive Engineer of Civil Maintenance Division USHP IInd is also lying vacant for a long time.

Sewa Hydel Project in Basohli tehsil of Kathua district in Jammu division is lying defunct since many years and has not been restored till date. As per reports, USHP IInd is defunct as the machinery has developed a snag and may be the unit will be restored by April next year.
