Jammu and Kashmir government recently formed a panel to rationalize higher education institutions. But it seems that utmost important rationalization of higher education institutions is just on papers and no further progress has been made by the concerned officials.

The panel headed by Administrative Secretary of the Higher Education Department, consisting of Director General (Budget) and Director General (Codes) of Finance Department and Director Finance and Director Planning of the Higher Education Department was asked to know about the requirements of institutions, rationalizing existing institutions and plans for opening higher institutions.

The panel was supposed to submit the report till August 28 but till now no report has been submitted, reportedly due to lack of push at the administrative level.

As per reports, some steps by Director Planning and Director Finance of the Higher Education Department have been taken in this regard.

Some members of the committee said Daily Excelsior that there has been no clarity as to which higher education institutions are required to be rationalized and what criteria should be adopted while doing this exercise.
