Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma leads security audit of Amarnath yatra routes
With the annual Amarnath Yatra set to commence shortly, top Army commanders conducted an extensive review of security arrangements at the twin base camps of Baltal and Chandanwari before briefing Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on the overall preparedness and operational readiness along the pilgrimage routes.
During his meeting with LG Sinha on Friday, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Northern Command was accompanied by Lt General Balbir Singh, GOC Chinar Corps; Lt General Rajan Sharawat, GOC 9 Corps and Lt General P. K. Mishra, GOC 16 Corps.
Lt Gen Pratik Sharma visited the forward areas of Kilo Force and Baltal to review the prevailing security situation and evaluate the operational preparedness of troops deployed for OpSHIVA2026.
During the visit, he was briefed on the current security environment, measures undertaken to strengthen vigilance and operational readiness of troops.
Interacting with commanders and troops, the Army Commander underscored the importance of sustained alertness, effective coordination, and mission-oriented execution to remain prepared for all challenges.
Lt Gen Pratik Sharma also visited Pahalgam and Chandanwari to review the security situation and assess operational preparedness along the Southern Route ahead of the commencement of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.
