Nupur Sharma row: Another man allegedly gets killed for expressing support

In Amravati of Maharashtra, a 54-year-old pharmacist was brutally murdered after reportedly supporting suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma on social media.

On June 21, a chemist named Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe was viciously murdered in Amravati. This incident took place only one week before two guys hacked to death Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Udaipur of Rajasthan.

According to a letter given to police by local BJP officials, Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe was assassinated in order to take retribution and set an example.

Police stated that they are looking into the letter that was sent by BJP leaders. An FIR has been filed and six individuals have been detained in connection with the matter.

According to a City Kotwali police station officer, Kolhe owned a pharmacy in Amravati. On some WhatsApp groups, he is said to have sent a post endorsing Nupur Sharma’s remarks. He also unintentionally posted the article in a WhatsApp group that included several Muslims, including some of his clients.

The Maharashtra ATS team is now in Amravati looking into the situation. They are looking into whether the case has a terrorism component and if  the Amravati suspects followed the same pattern as the culprits from Udaipur.

An NIA team has reportedly arrived in Amravati and is set to take over the inquiry. The group is investigating the situation and gathering information from the Maharashtra Police.

A source informed that on June 21, between ten and ten thirty in the evening, Kolhe was riding his two-wheeler home after shutting his shop. He was accompanied by his son Sanket and wife Vaishnavi in another car.

When they were all close to the entrance to Mahila College, two motorcycle-riding males rushed up behind them and blocked Kolhe’s way. He was stabbed in the neck with a sharp object by a young man who got off the motorcycle and fled the scene. Kolhe fell to the ground in a bloody heap on the highway. When Sanket hurried him to the hospital, he was declared dead.

The knife used in the crime has been confiscated. The police is also in the possession of the CCTV tape that has captured the events.
