Actor Saif Ali Khan said that digital streaming platforms provide an environment where artists are treated as an equal which lacks in films. In 2018, Saif Ali Khan was the first mainstream Bollywood Star to play a role in Netflix’s Sacred Games. He said that people judge a film or series on OTT platforms purely on its merit as the platforms don’t share viewership numbers.

He said that the box office numbers influence creativity a lot and it is liberating to not be bothered by them. The audience decides who will become a star and what to see. He told the PTI that an actor or actress heavily influences the opening day number and one’s price tag is based on market value. To have an equal environment is very good.

He was widely acclaimed for the Netflix show along with Nawazuddin Siddiqui. He said that there was no industry-set hierarchy on the set of the show and both of them were equals. They were competing with each-other for the betterment of the show. There’s a hierarchy in the Bollywood industry stars which is caused by the capitalist world.

He was talking on the sidelines of a discussion conducted by Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films. The platform also was joined by Siddiqui, Manoj Bajpayee and Samantha Akkinei. They all discussed the evolution and growth of the short films and the cinema. The platform hosts short films.

He said that the industry is currently going through some big changes. Every notion is being challenged.

The actor said that one can compare a movie with a novel and a short film with a poem but that doesn’t necessarily mean that a poem is easier to write than a novel. He said that the world is changing and it is hard to predict the place where people will be searching for entertainment. Cinema halls have not remained the only places where people watch films nowadays.

He said that he has never restricted himself to any medium and is not of the opinion that Hindi film stars are only meant for big screens. He said that things are exploding in Bollywood and filmmakers are trying to raise the bar. All you have to do is to become a part of their vision.
