‘Operation Sheruwali’ against Pakistani terrorists enters day 6, heavy shelling rocks Rajouri forests
Heavy shelling echoed through Rajouri’s forested terrain on Thursday as ‘Operation Sheruwali’ entered the sixth day, with security forces tightening the noose around the Pakistani terrorists hiding in the dense Dorimal forests. Additional troops and advanced surveillance equipment have been rushed to the area as forces intensify efforts to eliminate the terrorists and block possible escape routes.
This group of Pakistani terrorists had managed to flee after a brief encounter with security forces on Saturday.
Joint teams of Army, J&K Police and CRPF are engaged in the massive operation.
Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma reviewed the ongoing anti-terrorist operation and discussed the operational dynamics and inter-agency synergy during his visit to the area yesterday. IGP (Jammu) BS Tuti and officers of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) were also present.
Local reports have indicated heavy gunfire and explosions in the forest region during the ongoing operation. Authorities, however, have not officially confirmed the outcome of the latest assault, and live operational details remain restricted due to security concerns.
The Army Commander interacted with representatives of local Indian Army formations, JKP, IB, CRPF and other stakeholders to review the evolving operational dynamics and strengthen inter-agency synergy. He also engaged with troops deployed in the area and commended their relentless resolve, high morale and steadfast commitment while operating in a demanding environment.
Emphasising mission focus and operational excellence, the Army Commander exhorted all teams to pursue the objective with professional acumen, precision and a shared sense of purpose, officials said.
Security forces are also tracking blood stains believed to have been left behind by the fleeing terrorists after a hideout was destroyed during an assault carried out on Monday, officials said.
According to unconfirmed reports, two to three Pakistani terrorists are believed to be hiding in the area.
