Power Development Department employees in J&K to go on strike

The power department employees in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have decided to go on a strike. The power employees have decided to suspend all the work and go on strike as their pending issues have not been resolved.

Jasbir Singh, senior leader, Electrical Employees Union said that discussions were being held with the government representatives with Power Employees and Engineers Coordination Committee (PEECC) but the government failed to resolve the issues, thus the decision for strike was taken.

He further informed that they have decided to go on strike from December 18, 2021.

Jaipal Sharma, chairman and Sachin Tickoo, convenor of the Coordination Committee revealed that they have sent many representations to the government and also senior officers of the department including Managing Director and Principal Secretary, Power and many meetings were held earlier but they the justified demands of the employees were not being fulfilled. The employees on deputation to PDD Corporations are demanding delinking of their salary from Grant-in-aid system to routine budget through treasuries, but only assurances are being given. On Diwali festival the employees remained unpaid. It is also major cause of concern that the joint venture of JKPTCL and PGCIL has not been scrapped.

As per reports, even after giving plenty of time and representations to the government, they were forced to take this harsh step. Even the letter has been forwarded to the lieutenant Governor as well. They have sought the intervention of the Chief Secretary and the Lt Governor into the matter so that issues could be resolved.
