Not getting discouraged from stylish and expensive bikes of the other cyclists, Leakzes Angmo, woman cyclist from Ladakh has already won million hearts.

19-year old riding through her hard work and dedication to win has grabbed a silver medal for Ladakh in Khelo India Youth games. But before the start of the 20km Individual Road Time Trial event she was disheartened to see the luxurious bikes of other cyclists. But gathering all her spirit and not losing hope she borrowed a set of wheels from another cyclist to enhance her machine.

Leakzes said that she was stunned when she saw the equipment of her co-competitors and her cycle being simple one in front of theirs as most of them had carbon discs on their wheels. “Each of these carbon discs costs Rs 1 lakh. I can’t afford them,” she confessed.

“If I had a well-equipped modern cycle, I could have won the gold. Maybe someday, soon I am going to have one. You need the best cycles to compete in top tournaments,” said Angmo, who had won two medals — silver and bronze – at the Guwahati edition of KIYG.

In her 15th year, the Cycling Federation of India came calling with a competitive event which changed her life.
“My parents (father Ishey Dawa and mother Rigzin Yangdol) encouraged me to participate in it. A year later, I was selected to join the SAI Academy in New Delhi,” she said.

She has also won a gold medal in the Ultimate Ladakh Cycling Championship in 2020. When she raced to the gold in the Ultimate Ladakh Cycling Championship in 2020, she became a popular face in Ladakh.
