Security tightened across Jammu ahead of Independence Day celebrations

Ahead of Independence Day and in view of new and emerging threats, security has been tightened across the Jammu division particularly around the Maulana Azad Stadium.

Previously, the drone attack and increase in drone activity had created panic in a region.

A senior police officer said that terrorist may try to carry out attacks in the region to disrupt peaceful celebrations of Independence Day. He further said that infiltration attempts are also being made from across the border while alert security forces have also seized large quantity of arms and ammunition from various hideouts in the recent past.

J&K Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh during his visit to Rajouri district had said that police and security forces have strengthened the anti-infiltration grid both at the Line of Control and hinterland to thwart any attempts.

Joint teams of police, CRPF, Army, CAPF, SSB, BSF (on border) and other security, intelligence agencies are maintaining close coordination.

Checking has been increased on Jammu-Pathankot, Jammu-Srinagar and Jammu-Poonch national highways and the random vehicles are being checked reportedly.

An officer said that night patrolling has also been increased particularly in border areas.

Security has been increased at the main venue for Independence Day celebrations in Jammu and no unwanted movement is being allowed around the complex.

Also, a multi-layer security arrangement has been done and aerial surveillance has been put in place across J&K.

Meanwhile, on this Independence Day, the J&K administration has instructed schools and government offices to unfurl tricolor and sing the national anthem.
