Snow advisory for areas in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh

A weather advisory has been issued by meteorological department for snow bound areas of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh divisions of the two Union Territories.

“Currently, weather is generally cloudy in both Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh with no report of snowfall from anywhere” the advisory stated.

Light to moderate rain very likely in Jammu from late Sunday to Monday with light to moderate snowfall over places like Doda-Kistawar, Jawahar Tunnel, Pirpanjal.

Light to Moderate Snow (2-3 Inches) in plains of Kashmir and Moderate snow (5-6 Inches) over higher reaches most likely from later tonight till Monday night. Some places of higher reaches may receive upto 1 feet of snow.

Light to Moderate snow at many places of Kargil and other scattered places of Leh district is expected from Sunday night to Monday evening. Moderate to heavy snow is most likely on Zojila-Minamarg axis.

Overall, barring some places on higher reaches, there’s no forecast of any major snowfall in both UTs.

Advisory for driving in Snowbound Areas: 1. Drive very slowly. 2. Use Anti Skid Chain(Must) 3. Maintain sufficient distance b/w cars. 4. Keep headlights on. 5. Control your car with gear. 6. Don’t apply sudden brakes.
