Successful entrepreneurial journey of a dairy farmer from J&K

There are few people who have the courage to chase their dreams despite hundreds of hurdles on their way but they remain persistent enough to achieve success and pave their own roads of dreams and success.

One such inspiring story is of an entrepreneur from Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district. Manzoor Ahmed use to sell dry fruits in a small shop but with his hard work and courage to achieve his dreams he is running a dairy farm hat sells around 200 litres of milk per day.

Ahmed who just studied 12th, comes from an agricultural background but had a dream to start his own dairy farm. He was able to chase his dream with guidance from the Animal Husbandry Department, Ramban.

Ahmed said that he use to sell dry fruit earlier but after coming under guidance of the Animal Husbandry Department, he decided to start a dairy farm unit.

Ahmed started the journey of his dairy farm in Bankoot, Banihal with just four cows. Later, the Animal Husbandry Department sanctioned four units of 20 cows for his farm under the Integrated Dairy Development Scheme (IDDS). As per officials, he bought the cattle from Punjab.

Ahmed further informed that daily milk production of his unit was doubled after adding hybrid cattle heads and now he sells around 200 litres of milk per day and records monthly sales of Rs 3 lakh with smart profits.

Seeing the success of his venture, the Animal Husbandry Department has sanctioned another unit of five cows for his farm.

He further added that he will always be grateful of the government for giving him financial assistance and required help to expand his dairy farm. He further informed that his future plans include upgradation of his unit by installing milking machine, milk cooler, ATM milk machine and a genset.

Chief Animal Husbandry Officer (CAHO) Bharat Bhushan Raina said that it takes a good capital investment for the dairy farming and thus for this farmers can take loan assistance under many ongoing government schemes.

He said that the government has come up with many subsidy schemes, loan schemes and other support schemes for such businesses.
