Jammu and Kashmir delimitation commission has put its report in public domain recently and invited any suggestions till March 21. Further, delimitation commission will submit its report on May 6 and summary revision of electoral rolls will be taken up by Election Commission (EC).
Before the assembly elections are conducted, a detailed evaluation on the state of security will be conducted by EC. As per reports, 90 Assembly and five Parliamentary constituencies of J&K will be done till May 6 without any further delays.
Next visit for committee to J&K is scheduled on March 28 and 29 for public sittings to decide on suggestions and on May 6 panel will submit its report to Union Law and Justice Ministry. Election Commission could go for Summary Revision which is essential for conducting elections.
In 2019, Summary Revision was not held due to abrogation of article 370 and in 2020 and 2021 Electoral Rolls couldn’t be updated due to ongoing process of delimitation of Assembly constituencies. There is a provision that when the process for delimitation of seats is on, Summary Revision of voters will not be taken up.
The EC will also take security review of the situation later before taking a final call on holding much awaited Assembly polls elections in the UT.
