Terror attack in Kashmir not only targeted non-locals but Z-Morh tunnel that will counter Pakistan, China

While it was believed that the terrorist attack in Gaganeer in Ganderbal of Kashmir was launched against the non-locals working on a project, it was likely an attack on a strategic project of Z-Morh which will be instrumental in connecting Ladakh with rest of the country.

Z-Morh project on which the labourers who came under attack were working will counter Pakistan and China in Ladakh region. Intelligence agencies have inputs that the terrorists might try to attack the developmental works going on in Jammu and Kashmir. It is pertinent to mention here that in many recent attacks, terrorists were found having Chinese grenades, pistols.

The Z-Morh tunnel is a 6.5 Km 2-lane projct being constructed by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). The tunnel will connect Gaganeer in Ganderbal with Sonamarg. The tunnel will give a direct way to Zojila Tunnel, another strategic project which will bypass the mighty Zojila pass which remain closed in winters.

Together with Z Morh and Zojila tunnel, the Indian armed forces will have a year-round connectivity with Ladakh, a region which share borders with Pakistan and China. The Z Morh tunnel will help the armed forces to escape the landslides and avalanches which block the roads in the area.

Pertinently, Z-Morh project comprises of 6.5km tunnel with a parallel escape tunnel and a 5.5 km approach road. After completion, it will provide an all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Sonamarg.
