Terrorists fire upon J&K police in Srinagar, 1 personnel killed and 2 injured

Terrorists assaulted a police unit on the outskirts of Srinagar, leaving one Jammu and Kashmir Police officer dead and two constables injured on Tuesday. The terrorists opened fire on the police naka in the Lal Bazar area at 7:15 p.m., according to the officials.

They said that although two constables, Fayaz Ahmad and Abu Bakar, were injured in the attack, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) named Mushtaq Ahmad died. The wounded officers were taken right away to a hospital.

Kashmir Zone Police tweeted that ASI Mushtaq Ahmad suffered from injuries and died as a martyr. They give him a hearty appreciation for his great act of selflessness. Other two wounded personnel are receiving treatment. Further information will be provided.

Omar Abdullah, vice president of the National Conference and a former chief minister, and Mehbooba Mufti, president of the PDP, both condemned the terrorist attack on police officers.

Abdullah tweeted that he was deeply grieved to learn of the terrorist attack on Jammu and Kashmir troops stationed in Srinagar, which resulted in ASI Mushtaq Ahmed’s death in the line of duty and the injuries of two other police officers. He extended his condolences to ASI Mushtaq’s family, and wished a speedy recovery of the injured personnel.

Mehbooba Mufti called the incident “gruesome” and expressed sympathy to the victim’s family. She wrote that she is really disturbed by the horrific attack on police officers in Lal Bazar. She offers her condolences to ASI Mushtaq Ahmed’s family during this difficult time and prayers for the two gravely injured police officers.

J&K LG Manoj Sinha stated that his sincere sympathies go out to Mushtaq Ahmad, the braveheart JKP ASI. He  pray for quick healing for others wounded. He  vehemently condemns the heinous terrorist assault that targeted security officers in Srinagar. He assured that the perpetrators of this horrific act will shortly face punishment.
