The Lieutenant Governor Ladakh RK Mathur visited the ongoing training program for artisans working with Pashmina.
The 12-day training program has been organized by the Department of Industries and Commerce, UT Ladakh in collaboration with National Institute of Fashion Technology, Srinagar and will conclude on 18th July.
LG Mathur, while addressing the artisans from Leh and Kargil, expressed happiness about their eagerness to learn, reflected by the number of participants, and the products made by them, and stated that such an attitude is required for progressing in life.
Speaking of the vast potential in the handloom and handicrafts sector nationally as well as internationally, the Lieutenant Governor said that taking “Made in Ladakh” products to newer markets is the vision that the administration is working with. “You must try to link your traditional training with modern techniques to produce products which are relevant to the present market,” advised LG Mathur. Adding that their demand for more elaborate training and assistance in marketing etc, will be addressed by the Department.
Commending Secretary Department of Industries and Commerce, Saugat Biswas and the team, LG Mathur directed the Department to carry forward the initiative and give back professional and skilled artisans to the society.
The participants exhibited their products and expressed their gratitude to the Hon’ble LG for directing this initiative.
Advisor Umang Narula on the occasion stated that over the past years, the Administration, under the leadership of the Hon’ble LG has had many national level participation for artisans and that such representations will be expanded. During the event, advisor Narula also announced the Lieutenant Governor’s approval of Ladakh’s representation at the Dubai Expo next year, which was applauded by all participants.
Dr Javed Ahmad Vani, Director NIFT Srinagar expressed happiness at the beginning of a long term partnership with UT Administration. He spoke of required interventions such as branding and packaging for the promotion of Ladakh made craft products, stating that adding the story behind the craft adds value and promotes the brand image.
