These famous actresses were born in Jammu and Kashmir

Geographically Jammu and Kashmir is on the opposite side of the Bollywood land but we share a fair amount of talent. There are many artists born in J&K who have served the industry with talent and has now become a well-known part of it. Let’s take a look at some of the female actors:

Zaira Wasim

Born to a Muslim family in Srinagar, Zaira Wasim made her debut with the role of wrestler in a biographical film Dangal (2016). She then was seen as an aspiring singer in secret superstar (2017) which became the highest growing Indian film with the female protagonist. She was also honored with the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement by the President of India and many other awards too. Engulfed with a number of controversies, she has chosen to take a break from this industry.

Hina Khan

Famous by the name of Akshara from star plus’s Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Hina khan was born in Srinagar. The actress completed her Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2009 from Delhi. She also starred in Kasauti Zindagi ki as Kamolika, participated in fear factor: khatron ke Khiladi 8 and big boss 11.

Ekta Kaul

Ekta Kaul was born on 16 May in Jammu. She started her career with Nestle for a while though and then got her break with the role of Sahiba in Rab Se Sona Ishq. She participated in season 6 of dance reality Jhalak Dikhla Jaa and in 2015 she played the lead role in Mere Angne mai on star plus as Riya Mathur.

Joanna Lumley

Joanna Lamond Lumley is a British actress and activist. There must be a question that how is she even an Indian!  She was born on 1 May 1946 in Srinagar in the last days of British India. Most of her family had served in the British Raj with many of them born here. She won 2 BAFTA TV awards for her role in the BBC show Absolutely Fabulous as Patsy Stone. She is an advocate and human rights activist for survival international and the Gurkha Justice Campaign.

Kanchi Kaul

Best known for playing Ananya Sachdev-Samarth in ‘Ek ladki Anjani si’ and Shradha in the show ‘Ek nanad ki khushiyon ki chabi…meri bhabi’ Kanchi Kaul was born in Srinagar. She made her acting debut with a Telugu movie sampangi in 2001. Kanchi Kaul is married to zee tv’s kumkum bhagya lead Shabbir Ahluwalia with whom she has two sons. For now, kaul has taken a break from television.
