Tokyo Olympics to begin today: Know about opening ceremony, telecast in India

It’s an end to the year’s wait for fans and athletes who are participating since Tokyo 2020 Olympics is finally going to begin today in Japan. Tokyo 2020 Games were postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic but now it’s finally happening.

The Olympics will go on from July 23 to August 8. The opening ceremony is scheduled at the National Stadium in Tokyo and will begin at 4:30 PM IST. Around 11,000 athletes from 206 countries are expected to participate in 33 sports.

India has sent around 120 athletes for various competitions.

Archers Deepika Kumari, Atanu Das, Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav are in action on the inaugural day as the individual ranking rounds for men and women begins before the opening ceremony.

Olympics to witness the introduction of new competitions which includes 3×3 basketball, freestyle BMX, and Madison cycling, as well as further mixed events. These Games will witness karate, sport climbing, surfing, and skateboarding make their Olympic debuts, as well as the return of baseball and softball for the first time since 2008.

Sony Sports Network has the rights for live broadcast of Tokyo Olympics in India. Sony TEN 1 HD/SD, Sony TEN 2 HD/SD will live broadcast the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with English commentary while Hindi commentary will be available on Sony TEN 3 HD/SD.
