Top official of Power Department under scanner for power outage in Jammu

electricity cut in Jammu

Erratic power cuts in Jammu recently made the J&K administration take responsibility of the situation. During the course of an inquiry initiated after the power cuts, a top officer of Power Department has come under the scanner for his failure to perform.

As per reports, Shaleen Kabra, Principal Secretary Home Department, who was appointed as the enquiry officer is likely to question his counterpart and the said officer in the power department.

The government has inputs that the official may have been misleading the Raj Bhawan over the issue of power crises in Jammu. It has been learnt that the said official was already under the scanner of the Raj Bhawan and that at a high level meeting he was given “a piece of mind”.

As per reports, major consensus in the government is that the said official should be held answerable for the power crises in Jammu.

A senior official said that top official need to be answerable only if he is responsible enough in performing his duties. “It seems that the top official who was till recently calling the shots in J&K administration was misleading the Raj Bhawan. However it seems he will be named in the enquiry soon” said a source.

Government has recently appointed Shaleen Kabra to investigate the issue of erratic power cuts and also fix the responsibility for such unscheduled blackouts.

On June 16, in a high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha made sure that a Committee will be constituted by the Chief Secretary to probe into the matter and Power department’s lapses will be identified.
