The trader community in Jammu has asked for relief from administration as they are suffering losses due to the lockdown which was imposed during the second wave of Covid-19.
Last year Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha provided relief when the lockdown was imposed during the first wave. Arun Gupta President Chamber of Commerce, Jammu appealed to the J&K government asking for financial support.
He said that by not charging interest for 3 to 4 months, relief from paying the electricity bills, and support in the tourism sector by the government can ease the burden and stress of traders.
As per Arun Gupta, total loss suffered by traders is about Rs 1,500 crore in the second lockdown which was imposed in April, 2021. “Not only this year, during the first lockdown in March 2020, a loss suffered by traders was about Rs 4,000 crore as markets were shut for around six months” Gupta said. He further added that the tourism and trade industry has been hit even worse due to the lockdown in the second wave of Covid-19.
Deepak Gupta, President of Traders Federation, Jammu said that some relief packages should be announced by the government so that they can deal with such huge losses.
One of the traders in Jammu, Ram Ratan Gupta, said that the small shopkeepers have also suffered huge losses. “Small shop owners should also be helped by the government by giving them some relief packages” he said.
