Vehicles without high security number plates to invite action in J&K

The Jammu and Kashmir government has made High Security Number Plates mandatory in the UT.

A circular in this regard stated “The general public/owners of motor vehicles are hereby informed through the medium of this notice that the Jammu and Kashmir Motor Vehicles Department, in compliance to the directions of the Supreme Court, has issued circular vide No.TC/JK/P&S/597-99 dated 01.02.2016 whereby use of High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) in all motor vehicles made mandatory and the motor vehicle owners have to affix the same in their respective vehicles by or before 16 September, 2017”.

‘However, it has been observed that some motor vehicles are still plying on road without affixing mandatory HSRP and is, therefore, violating orders of Supreme Court/Department” the circular read.

Accordingly, it is reiterated that owners of all motor vehicles shall ensure affixation of HSRP in their motor vehicles from authorised vendor stationed at old RTO office, Ware House, Jammu and at all other ARTO offices. Any default in this regard shall be treated as willful violation by the concerned motor vehicle owner and shall be dealt accordingly, the circular read.
