Weather concerns prompt Road closures in Jammu and Kashmir as snowfall forecast looms

Srinagar :- The authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have implemented precautionary road closures across several key routes as the region braces for anticipated weather disturbances. Multiple arterial connections, including the Gurez-Bandipora, Mughal, and Sinthan Top roads, have been temporarily closed following weather forecasts predicting light rain and snowfall between January 16 and 19.

While the crucial Srinagar-Jammu national highway remains operational, officials have issued strict advisories for commuters to maintain lane discipline and avoid overtaking to prevent traffic congestion. Travelers along the Jammu-Srinagar route are specifically cautioned to restrict their journey to daylight hours and minimize stops between Ramban and Banihal sectors due to potential hazards from landslides and shooting stones.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has been tasked with monitoring conditions on the SSG road, with traffic flow contingent upon their clearance. Several other important routes, including the Bhaderwah-Chamba Road, Mughal road, and Sinthan road, continue to remain closed, though the Karnah-Kupwara road remains accessible for travel. These measures reflect the administration’s proactive approach to ensuring public safety during the anticipated adverse weather conditions in the region.
