After more than one and a half year when people believed that status of Union Territory and control of administration in hands of Lt Governor will bring much needed respite in terms of civic amenities, power cuts have again started to haunt the residents of entire Jammu and Kashmir.
Erratic power supply is being witnessed in both Kashmir as well as Jammu region where people have complained that electricity witnesses cuts without any prior information by the authorities. While government issues official statement a day before any power cut for repair and up-gradation, residents complain that power is suspended even without schedule.
The unscheduled power cuts were giving nightmares to the residents of Jammu who are set to face extreme summers in the coming months. The authorities have failed to give a proper explanation as to why entire UT was witnessing power cuts on daily basis.
Amit Gupta, a resident of Shastri Nagar said that erratic power supply is being witnessed for the past over one month and the authorities have failed to provide any relief to the common people. “What kind of a UT is this where we do not even have continuous power despite electricity meters installed in our home. When we are paying power bill why cant government provide us with electricity without cuts”? questioned Gupta.
