Z-morh tunnel to transform Sonamarg into year round tourist destination says Omar

Srinagar :- Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed optimism about Sonamarg’s tourism potential following his inspection of the Z-Morh tunnel site on Saturday, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled inauguration on Monday.

The strategic tunnel project is set to revolutionize access to Sonamarg by enabling year-round connectivity, marking a significant shift from the current seasonal limitations. Abdullah highlighted the tunnel’s dual benefits: developing Sonamarg into a premier ski resort while also improving connectivity to the Kargil and Leh regions.

“The local population will no longer face winter displacement, and travel times to Kargil and Leh from Srinagar will be notably reduced,” Abdullah stated in his social media post on X, sharing aerial imagery of the tunnel site and resort area. The development promises to transform Sonamarg’s tourism landscape, potentially establishing it as a major winter sports destination while ensuring continuous accessibility throughout the year.

This infrastructure milestone is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the region and enhance the quality of life for local residents who previously had to relocate during winter months.
