Rs 32 lakh worth house of convicted drug peddler attached in Pulwama, four smugglers arrested in Kashmir

Continuing its intensified drive against drug trafficking, Police in Pulwama has attached a double storey residential house valued at ₹32,19,000 as per the valuation schedule of the R&B Department, 2022 in Lalhar area of Kakapora, belonging to a convicted narcotics offender, Police stated on Monday.

The action pertains to case FIR No. 42/2018 under section 8/22 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Kakapora. The property belongs to Ab Hamid Bhat @ Hamid Puj son of Mohd Ismail resident of Lalhar Kakapora, who stands convicted in the said case. The accused has already been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1 lakh by the Hon’ble Court of Principal District & Sessions Judge Pulwama, Police said.

During the course of investigation and subsequent legal proceedings, the property was established as being acquired through proceeds of illicit drug trade. Accordingly, the same has been attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985, following due legal formalities. The attachment was carried out on the spot, and necessary notice has been affixed in presence of police officials and independent witnesses, Police said.

This action reflects the zero-tolerance approach of J&K Police towards drug peddling and its firm resolve to target not only offenders but also the assets generated through illegal narcotics activities.

General public is once again urged to come forward with any information regarding drug abuse or trafficking so that timely action can be taken in the larger interest of society.

Meanwhile, continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking, Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Pulwama & Sopore and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police party of Police Station Kakapora at a checkpoint established at Kandizal near NH-44 Underpass intercepted a vehicle (Innova) bearing registration number JK02DA-4166, with two persons on board. They have been identified as Liyaqat Ali son of Nazir Ahmad Akla resident of Nagrota Jammu, along with a passenger, Amanat Ali son of Gh Mustafa resident of Nagrota Jammu. During search, approximately 533 grams of poppy straw and 20 charas sticks weighing about 735 grams were recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized, Police said.

Meanwhile in Sopore, a police team of Police Post Warpora during naka checking at Dangarpora–Warpora Bypass Road, two suspicious individuals were intercepted. During search, charas-like substance and Codeine Phosphate were recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Umar Amin Banday son of Mohammad Amin Banday resident of Noorbagh Sopore and Basit Ahmad Shah son of Abdul Aziz Shah resident of Naseem Bagh Sopore, Police said.

Accordingly, cases under relevant provisions of law stands registered at respective police stations and investigations have been taken up.
