3 youths killed after drowning in Jhelum at Hajin, bodies recovered

In a tragic incident, three youths were on Friday killed after drowning into the Jhelum River in the Hajin in Bandipora district of north Kashmir. Bodies of all three have been recovered., SDRF said.

According to reports, one of the youths accidentally lost his balance and slipped into the river. In an attempt to save him, the two others jumped into the waters, but all three were swept away by the strong currents.

Locals, volunteers and rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched a massive rescue operation.

The SDRF Kashmir, which was engaged in the rescue operations, said that “A tragic incident occurred in District Bandipora, wherein 03 persons drowned in the River Jhelum at Check Hajin, Bandipora. Initially, 02 of the drowned persons, namely Adil Ahmad Dar S/o Bashir Ahmad Dar & Sameer Ahmad Dar S/o Mohd Jamal Dar, were retrieved from the river by local residents. Subsequently, the 3rd  boy was retrieved by SDRF Bandipora & was identified as Suhail Ahmad Dar S/o Gh. Nabi Dar. All the 03 drowned persons belong to the same village Chindergeer Hajin, Bandipora”, the SDRF added.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic loss of young lives in an unfortunate drowning incident in the River Jhelum at Hajin area in Bandipora district.

In a condolence message, the Lieutenant Governor has said:

“I am deeply pained by the loss of precious young lives in an unfortunate drowning incident in Bandipora. My thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family members. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved in this difficult hour.”

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed profound grief over the tragic drowning incident in Hajin area of Bandipora district, in which three young boys lost their lives on Friday.

The three youths, all residents of Chandergeer Hajin, drowned in River Jhelum at Check Chandergeer area of Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

The Chief Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls.

He also prayed for strength and forbearance to the grieving families during this difficult hour.
