Amid heavy snowfall, Kashmir witnesses a surge in criminal cases

As heavy snowfall has created a lot of problems for the people of valley, Kashmiris are surrounded by another problem; crime. The valley is witnessing a sudden rise in number of crime cases reported and police is having a hard time to counter these criminals.

In the past few days, police have arrested three murder accused youth, saved a girl from the hands of predator, raided gambling spots for nabbing gamblers. The police are going through these challenging situations, driving through the snow-clad roads amid warnings of avalanches. A senior official said that during these times of heavy snowfall and constant warnings of avalanches, people are resorting to criminal activities.

In an incident, kidnappers made a minor girl their prey and allegedly sexually assaulted her.

A senior police official said that on January 7, the police in Kulgam arrested an accused of the crime within one hour, who was accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl. Police said that a man came to the police station complaining that a minor girl was confined wrongfully and assaulted sexually by a resident of south Kashmir.

A special team of the police led by SHO Devsar under the supervision of DySP Kulgam Ashaq Hussain-JKPS nabbed the accused of crime. A police official said that the girl had to be admitted to a hospital .

In another case, police came to know of some people gambling in a snow clad building while the region was heavily affected by snowfall. The police has to act tough against such social crimes. A police party from Police Station Lar led by Dysp Hqr Dr Abdul Majid Magray-JKPS conducted a raid at the gambling site at Check Yangoora after they received information about gambling activities and caught three gamblers.

In another case in the valley, police caught the accused of the murder of a youth whose body was found in suspicious circumstances in Pahalgam. A senior official that two of the accused were caught in Srinagar. Police have been busy providing help to people as there have been frequent cases of snowfall, crime cases are rising and people should introspect about it.
