Meeting is expected to be held shortly to discuss necessary steps for delimitation of Assembly constituencies.

Apart from the state-level leaders, the five MPs from J&K will also be involved in the discussions during the next round of talks.

Previously, the commission had one year to complete the process but due to COVID-19 pandemic the process could not be completed and was extended. As per reports, the work has regained so that timely completion of the process can be done.

The Delimitation Commission has decided to expand its consultations and hold discussions with all major political parties of Jammu and Kashmir. The commission has sought detailed data on demographics from the deputy commissioners.

Before the meeting of Prime Minister Narender Modi with leaders of J&K, the delimitation commission held a meeting with deputy commissioners (DCs) of all 20 districts in the union territory. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Election Commissioner Chandra Bhushan and discussions regarding the current political scenario, the problems faced by the administration and people’s aspirations were done with DCs.
