Faulty Adaptive Traffic Control System irks commuters in Srinagar

In various areas of Srinagar, Adaptive Traffic Control System (ATCS) are on the blink leading to road chaos. Smart-camera controlled traffic system are not functioning properly and are causing various problems to the commuters in the city and leading to major traffic congestion.

A commuter, Majid Wani said that ATCS has been installed at all major junctions but is non-functional in various areas including Dalgate, Lalchowk, Hazratbal and other areas. Further Wani added that this has resulted in gridlocks in Srinagar and people have to face lot of inconvenience and urged the administration to make these traffic lights operational.

An official said that the system was set up for the traffic management while admitting that it is taking time to be made functional.

SMC commissioner, Athar Aamir Khan, told Greater Kashmir that the work on the ATCS is nearly complete and the system will be operational soon once the technical configuration is done.

Further Khan added that this system is called ATCS and will be followed by an Intelligent Traffic lights System which needs to be configured to make it fully functional so that it can be controlled via a single control room and further informed that they are at the configuration and technical stage currently and as soon as that is completed they will start it.
