Gupkar alliance faces jolt as 11 PDP leaders join BJP in Jammu

Eleven People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders and their supporters joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Ravinder Raina was present when the leaders joined the party.

Leaders who joined the BJP are PDP zonal president Sukhdev Singh; Mohinder Singh; Prithvi Raj Khokhar; Capt Ram Lal Choudhary; Bhagwan Dass; Subedar Gian Chand; Sushil Kumar; Tara Chand, Bachan Singh; Ajay Choudhary; and Dr Shadi Lal.

Along with the leaders, hundreds of their supporters too joined the saffron party. Ravinder Raina called the PDP a “sunken ship” and welcomed all of them into the party. Ravinder said that the PDP has continuously favoured Pakistan by their talks. “The senior PDP leadership is very anti-national in its approach. The party has now fully lost the faith of the general public as well as its leaders” said Raina.

MP Jugal Kishore Sharma also welcomed the new leaders and their supporters and hoped that their joining will enhance the development process ongoing in the region. He told them to work sincerely keeping in mind the party lines and assured them that they will get full support in return for public welfare activities.

The People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) is a political alliance between mainstream parties of Jammu and Kashmir. The main aim of this alliance is to restore Article 370 and 35A which was revoked by the Indian Government on 5 August, 2019 for Jammu and Kashmir. The alliance is jointly formed by the National Conference (NC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Communist Party of India (Marxist), Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference, Awami National Conference and the Indian National Congress.
