Infiltration bid foiled, terrorist killed in Kupwara

An infiltration bid was foiled along Line of Control in the frontier district of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir and one terrorist was killed in an encounter at Jumagund. As per police official, army and police are on the job and further details shall follow.

Jumagund falls in Keran Sector which is close to the LoC and has been a way for infiltration.

Army officials said that in breach of an ongoing ceasefire between India & Pak across LoC, infiltration or BAT action was attempted in Keran sector, Kupwara on January 1 and Army troops deployed foiled the bid & eliminated the terrorist, later identified as Mohd Shabbir Malik, a Pakistani national, equipped with weapons, ammunition and warlike stores.

The ongoing operation in which one terrorist was killed is conducted by J&K Police and the 4 Sikh Regiment of Army

“This was an infiltration attempt, we are searching for the remaining terrorist (s), if any,” a senior Army officer told Greater Kashmir. He said that additional reinforcement has reached the spot and searches were underway.

The body of the slain infiltrator was recovered along with one AK 47 and large quantity of ammunition including seven grenades. The surveillance of the area is in progress, denying any exploitation of the bad weather condition prevailing in the area and the operation is ongoing. The route adopted by the terrorist was similar to the one adopted on 04 Apr 20 during Op Rangadori Bhaikh in which five terrorists were eliminated.
