Rashtriya Rifles Battalion on Friday received information from SSP Awantipora about the presence of two unidentified terrorists in the general area of Khreuh. The Battalion launched an operation at 1 am along with J&K police.

“They drew heavy volume of fire from terrorists hiding in the village at 2:40 am. The security forces quickly isolated the house, ensuring that other innocent civilians were not caught in the cross fire. The terrorists were asked to surrender time and again, but refused. Intermittent exchange of fire continued throughout the night. At around 6:30 am, one terrorist tried to escape from the house, by firing on the troops, but was neutralised. The second terrorist continued to fire from the house but was contained in the house by the troops on ground. By 9:15 am, the second terrorist was also neutralized” an official press release by army stated.

One of the terrorists killed has been identified as Musaib Mustaq Bhat of Hizbul Mujahideen, a resident of Kheruh. He was involved in untold atrocities on local people including the killing of Javid Ahmed Malik, a Government employee at GHS Pastuna, on 23 July 21 at Luragam. One AK-47, one Pistol and other warlike stores were recovered from the terrorists.

“The elimination of these two terrorists will go a long way in safeguarding the people from their atrocities and inculcate a sense of safety and security amongst the local populace” statement read.
