J&K Police says terrorists misusing mosques for attacks on security forces

The Jammu & Kashmir Police has said that mosques in Kashmir are being misused by terrorists for attacks on security forces. The police have requested Masjid Intizamia, civil society and media to make public their condemnations of this unethical act.

Inspector-General of Police Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar has said that terrorists are misusing religious institutions to launch attacks in Pampore, Sopore and Shopian regions. He said that terrorists used mosques for attacks in Pampore on 19 June 2020, Sopore on 1 July 2020 and Shopian on 9 April 2021.

The police have requested to denounce this shameful practice by terrorists of using mosques for launching attacks. Sources said that security agencies have noted such tactics during attacks in the past.

Security forces gunned down five terrorists in an encounter in Shopian after locating terrorists inside a mosque. Forces killed three terrorists in the Pampore encounter which took place on June 19, 2020. These terrorists had also entered the Jamia mosque in order to take refuge.

Earlier on 1 July 2020, a jawan and a civilian lost their lives in a terrorists attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) party from a Masjid in Sopore. Three personnel also got injured in this attack.
