Taking a serious note of widening of learning gaps due to Covid-19 pandemic among the students of schools in Jammu and Kashmir, J&K School Education Department (SED) asked NGOs to supplement the government’s efforts.
In an attempt to overcome learning gaps among the school-going children this step has been taken by the department.
Project director Samagra Shiksha, Deep Raj, in an official communication to all the Chief Education Officers (CEOs) has said that due to pandemic learning gaps have widened due to prolonged closure of schools which has affected the learning system among students.
The projector director Samagra said that the Pratham Education Foundation- an NGO, which has been working on the improvement of learning of students in the Union Territory will carry out be various activities in the schools such as handholding of students, training of teachers, assessment and other issues. Further the communication read that it which will be done in collaboration with the department of school education for students of 4th to 6th class from the month of June.
Deep Raj told Greater Kashmir that the NGOs have been roped on the basis of a MoU signed with the nonprofit organisations, to supplement the efforts of the department to fill the learning gaps among the students.
A functionary from Pratham Education Foundation while briefing about the initiative told Greater Kashmir that surveys on schools have shown that during the pandemic students developed learning gaps due to closure of schools.
