It is being anticipated that Ladakh is probably going to witness a hot political summer in coming days since the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) announced an agitation from June 1.

Since there have been no invite from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs since a long time for talks on the demands flagged by them, LAB and KDA are holding a meet in Kargil on May 26 to plan an agitational programme, reportedly.

The KDA even held an informal meeting in Kargil recently which was attended by all prominent leaders. The meeting came amid indications that the LAB and KDA could go for join agitation in support of their demands, most likely from June 1. “We waited for the MHA invite for last eight months but there was no call. Therefore, we have been left with no option but to intensify our agitation,” the leaders of two organizations said.

It is pertinent to mention that LAB and KDA are demanding statehood with legislature, constitutional safeguards under the 6th Schedule to protect jobs and land, separate Lok Sabha seats for Kargil and Leh districts, a Rajya Sabha seat for the region and filling of vacant posts by recruiting locals.
