A high level meeting took place in New Delhi in which members of People’s Movement for sixth Schedule for Ladakh discussed with Union Minister for Home Amit Shah the prospects to apply 6th Schedule in the Union Territory.

The meeting was underway till the filing of the report but sources said that the Union Government may soon apply the 6th schedule in Ladakh that has been demanded by the people of the UT for past long time now.

Leaders of People’s Movement for Sixth Schedule went to New Delhi in an airplane on Saturday to meet Union Minister Amit Shah. The leaders had shot off a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi a day ago demanding 6th schedule for the UT.

It has been reliably learnt that the union government was now seriously thinking to apply 6th schedule in Ladakh after there was a campaign by the locals demanding the same. Sixth Schedule was demanded by people after Ladakh became a UT.

Religious and political leaders across party line got united demanding sixth schedule for Ladakh as they claimed that in absence of a special status to the tribal Ladakh, environment and culture of the region can become vulnerable.
