LG Mathur and MP Ladakh discuss UGC affiliation for Central Institute for Buddhist Studies

Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur was called upon by Member Parliament Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, President Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) Thupstan Chhewang, Vice President LBA Venerable Tsewang Yangjor and President Ladakh Gompa Association (LGA) Rev. Shadup Chamba at Raj Niwas today. 

The representatives put forth matters concerning University Grants Commission (UGC) affiliation for Central Institute for Buddhist Studies (CIBS) and schools functional under it.


Stating that post a fruitful meeting chaired by the Hon’ble Minister of Culture at the request of MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, UGC has informed that their degree level accreditation shall continue beyond January 2021.

Discussing the matter regarding accreditation for classes up to 12th standard, LG Mathur informed that no firm decisions have been taken so far by the Ministry of Culture and that the matter is being pursued with them.

Further, informing the delegation about the concerns regarding inclusion of Ladakh-centric content in textbooks, LG Mathur stated that both the LAHDCs have been formally requested to identify languages/dialects on basis of which textbooks and Ladakh-centric content will be developed for schools across Ladakh.
