While many officials of Jammu and Kashmir were in the recent times caught in the net of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), it is surprising that many vigilance officials are themselves facing inquiries in alleged corruption cases.

Reports suggest that this is mainly because the UT administration did not pay heed to the guidelines laid by Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) while appointing vigilance officials by different Government departments.

To make the institution of Chief Vigilance Officers/Departmental Vigilance Officers more effective, instructions were issued from time to time for appointment of such officers in the departments, who are required to function in close coordination with the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

ACB recent found that many CVOs were themselves having vigilance cases registered against them. The ACB has reported this matter to the government.
