Srinagar : National Conference has completely rejected the news of a probable alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party, stating categorically that the two parties would never share office. NC spokesman and MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq addressed the media to dispel the news of the growing speculation of political realignment in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speculation had mounted ever since NC president Dr. Farooq Abdullah’s four-day tour of Delhi, where he was said to be holding discussions with top BJP leadership. Media reports suggested a shift in political equations and claimed “there is a strong possibility that NC may move closer to the BJP for the larger interest of J&K.”But Sadiq refused to accept this report and argued that while meeting the Union Home Minister is the routine of every Chief Minister which is a normal administrative process and should not be taken as the political cooperation in any form, he pointed out that the NC has been criticizing BJP’s policy and has gone to polls with them too.
The spokesman did not miss an opportunity to reprimand too, declaring those responsible for sowing confusion of this nature to face consequences from within the party. While maintaining that working relations with the Centre would continue as they always have, Sadiq left no room for ambiguity about potential political alignment, declaring in summary that “BJP and NC can never sit in one office.” The statement puts the swirling rumors about any potential alliance between the two parties effectively to rest.
