New VC of Jammu University once purpotedly remarked against PM

Prof Umesh Rai of Delhi University has been appointed as new Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University recently. Soon after this announcement many netizens started to share stories published in various newspapers during 2014.

It is pertinent to mention that in April 2014 newly appointed Vice-Chancellor had faced the rage of the activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As per Early Times, various netizens flooded social media with various posts and comments and said that they are surprised over the choice. Many netizens have shared reports published in different newspapers and websites at that time when this incident took place in the year 2014.

As per a report published in April 8, 2014 edition of The Hindu, Raju Rawat, a member of ABVP (the RSS-run students’ party), met Professor Umesh Rai in order to discuss the complaint of some Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) students who had not received laptops. It is alleged that Prof. Rai behaved rudely and asked Rawat to leave. Rawat, in his statement to The Hindu, told the professor that his attitude would not last long since the Modi government would come and get rid of FYUP and to which Rai replied by saying, “Chaiwallahs are not equipped to come and take university decisions”.

Prof Umesh Rai of Delhi University was appointed as new Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University on March 20.
