Power Department in Jammu runs short of engineers, another season of power outage ahead?

Power Development Department in Jammu is facing shortage of engineers at various levels and is causing hindrance to smooth functioning of department.

PDD is running short of nearly 30 percent shortage of engineering staff ranging from Assistant Engineer to the Chief Engineers, particularly in Jammu province, reportedly.

Last summer Jammu had to witness huge problems due to power crises in scorching heat and the main reason behind that was the shortage of staff.

As per reports, nearly 400 posts are lying vacant in the PDD which has definitely rung the alarm bells.

Engineers in the department said that engineers are backbone of the Power department and their shortage is bound to affect the power supplies.

Raj Bhawan since past years have been informed by the officials that the Power department was facing shortage of engineers but that no remedial measures were taken, as per Early Times.
It is pertinent to mention that in the month of June 2021, following power crises in Jammu, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had assured the people of Jammu division that a committee will be formed by the Chief Secretary for inquiring into the unscheduled power outage in various areas.


Lieutenant Governor had said that several meetings were held to prevent erratic electricity supply in Jammu division for May-June when the temperature rises. Even in the meetings it was informed about the shortage of engineers which needs to be fulfilled but no action was taken regarding this.
